On arrival you are met and
taken on an overland excursion to the dunes. After a picnic lunch return to the aircraft for a
flight along the coast via Conception Bay to Swakopmund. After refueling
at Swakopmund continue with a low-level flight along the Skeleton Coast
passing over the seal colony at Cape Cross. The next stop is the Ugab
formations or "moon landscape". Proceed to Kuidas camp in the
Huab Valley. Amongst the rocks within walking distance of the camp are
ancient rock engravings. Overnight at Kuidas Camp (L,D) Day 2 Huab Valley - Terrace Bay - Hoarusib Valley After breakfast depart by landrover to explore the colourful red lavas and yellow sandstone of the Huab River formations. Introduction to the ecological environment with wide diversity of flora and fauna, including the Welwitschia Mirabilis. After lunch back at Kuidas Camp, depart by aircraft along the coast for Terrace Bay in the Skeleton Coast Park. The most prominent shipwrecks along this part of the coast are the Montrose and Henrietta. At Terrace Bay access the roaring dunes by Landrover. Also visit the beach with is profusion of multi-coloured pebbles and old whale bones scattered along the beach above the tide mark. Return to the airfield and continue north to Camp Purros in the Hoarusib Valley. Overnight at Camp Purros (B,L,D) Day 3 Skeleton Coast - Kunene River After breakfast take a scenic drive along the Hoarusib Valley to visit a settlement of the nomadic Himba people. Continue north along the Skeleton Coast by Aircraft to the Kunene River. The Kaiu Maru shipwreck and pieces from old sailing vessels lie scattered along this part of the coast. From the airfield we take a scenic drive by Landrover and stop for lunch. Continue through the mountains and dunes of the Hartmann Valley, which extends to the Kunene River arriving at the camp next to the river in the late afternoon, spending the last night on the Skeleton Coast. Overnight at Camp Kunene (B,L,D) Day 4 Kunene River - Etosha An early morning boat cruise on the Kunene River as it flows through scenic desert landscape, observing the bird life and crocodiles. Birds vary from aquatic species on the perennial waters, to endemic desert varieties and those which inhabit dense riverine vegetation. After lunch, fly directly from the Kunene River to the eastern side of the Etosha National Park. Spend the night at a lodge just outside the park. (B,L,D) Day 5 Ongava - Windhoek After breakfast we fly into the park for a game drive by vehicle. Springs provide numerous drinking places for the animals, which congregate in spectacular numbers especially during the dry season (June to December). Lions and steenbok may be found in specific home ranges, while other animals such as springbok, zebra wildebeest and elephant wander all over in search of better grazing. Lunch at one of the rest camps then embark on an afternoon game drive. Flight back to Windhoek is at 4 o’clock, to ensure landing before dark. (B,L)
